A Tribute To Segovia

Program Description

Award-winning classical/Spanish/fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Andy Hackbarth pays tribute to the “Father of the Classical Guitar,” Andres Segovia, through instrumental selections and short stories about Segovia's life and music. This eclectic musical journey transports listeners from the music of Bach and the cathedrals of Germany to the hills of Spain and the work of Albeniz and Tarrega, from classical Europe to the southern tip of South America.  "A Tribute to Segovia" also looks to modern music and how Segovia's work has influenced the contemporary guitar world.

He has studied privately and in Masterclass settings with some the world’s most highly-respected musicians, including John Williams, Christopher Parkening, Elliot Fisk, Ricardo Iznaola and Julliard’s Sharon Isbin and Kevin Gallagher. He has won, placed, or been a finalist in numerous major national and international competitions, including the International Acoustic Music Awards, The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Competition, Music Teacher’s National Association Competition, the Neale Silva Foundation Competition, Stars of Tomorrow, the International Songwriting Competition, and others.

Before turning to the life of a full-time touring musician, Andy held a position on the Music Faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he taught guitar, theory, and songwriting for three years during graduate studies. Andy has also worked with thousands of children, teens and adults at schools, libraries, and community education centers throughout the country. He strives to find new ways to reach students of all kinds, and through an extensive portfolio of unique workshops and lectures, is able to make educational outreach an integral part of his touring schedule.

Andy is currently based out of Denver, CO and Nashville, TN. An avid traveler, adventurer, outdoorsman, and extreme sports junkie, you can often find him jumping out of an airplane or off a cliff into a far-away ocean. His parents raised llamas, and as a child he was branded with the unfortunate nickname of, ‘Llama Boy’. After college, he worked the graveyard shift as a security officer, as it afforded him plenty of time to practice guitar! Andy most recently spent the winter traveling as a featured musician on cruise ships, visiting Australia, Tahiti, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska. And has three best friends; his two nieces and his dog/co-pilot, Samson.
